On Saturday, April 2, 2106 71 bowlers comprising 14 teams descended upon Eastward Lanes to participate in the Ellsworth High School Alumni Associations’ 4th Annual Bowling for scholars. Bowling one string, and enjoying coupons from Wendy’s, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, McDonald’s and Morton’s Moo, the participants turned in over $4600 which coupled with our business sponsors brought the total proceeds to over $6800.00. This was the most successful Bowling for Scholars to date. The Association was particularly pleased to see the participation of three student teams, one of which was the EHS National Honor Society.
Special thanks go to Wayne Gaspar of Eastward Bowling Lanes who did not charge for the use of the bowling alley or for the rental of bowling shoes. The Association also thanks our business sponsors: RF Jordan, Sargent Real Estate, Star 97.7, EBS. Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Storage Plus, Merrill Furniture, Clarke Construction, Martha’s Diner, Ellsworth Self-Storage, James W. Wadman Accountants, Willey’s, Dunkin Donuts, Maine Shellfish Co., Friends and Family Market, V.E. Tainter & Sons, Wal-Mart and K&B Auto.
The endowment fund, which now stands at $613,000, awards scholarships to EHS graduating seniors and alumni. In 2015, $17,000 in scholarships were awarded.
