ELLSWORTH — Brooke Pirie, a recent graduate of Ellsworth High School, has been crowned United States of America Miss Maine. Pirie was representing as Miss Hancock County during the United States of America (USOA) pageant at the Civic Center in Augusta on Oct. 13
Pirie was also voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants.
“It was touching because you don’t expect to get anything like that and then when you do it’s surprising, but it means a lot,” she said.
The pageant was a three-day weekend and involved getting to know the other contestants, being interviewed by the judges and doing dress rehearsals ahead of the pageant on Sunday.
The interview, Pirie said, represented over 50 percent of her overall score.
“It was a busy weekend, a lot of high heel wearing,” she said.
